A Knowledge Component Model is a decomposition of a learning domain into discrete, assessable units of knowledge or skill, each of which can be independently tracked as a learner masters it. It provides the structural backbone for adaptive tutoring systems, mapping exercises and questions to the components they exercise. Techniques such as Bayesian Knowledge Tracing estimate a learner’s mastery of each component over time.
