Independent Verification is the ability of any participant to check the validity of transactions or state transitions themselves, using publicly available data and consensus rules, rather than trusting a third party’s assertion. In blockchain systems it is what a full node performs when it re-executes and validates every block, giving the network its trust-minimised guarantees. It is a precondition for meaningful decentralisation, since a system that cannot be independently verified reduces to trusting whoever operates it.
