Assembly automation is the use of robotic manipulators to perform repetitive joining, fastening, insertion or fitting operations that combine discrete parts into a finished product on a production line. It depends on precise manipulation and often force or vision feedback to handle part tolerances and orientation. It is one of the earliest and most economically significant applications of industrial robot manipulators.
